Twitter is almost invented for moments like this. When Marouane Chamakh rocked up in Wales, his rather close shave started a social media storm.

With eight league goals in five years under his belt, it’s hardly surprising that English football’s second tier isn’t exactly quaking in its sponsored studs as Marouane Chamakh saunters into South Wales.
The former Arsenal, West Ham and Crystal Palace ‘striker’ joined Junior Hoilett and Sol Bamba at the Cardiff City stadium on a free transfer on Tuesday as veteran gaffer Neil Warnock aims to get the old band back together for one last shot at survival before he rides into the sunset for the final time. And then promptly turns up at Burton in eight months.
Though appearing to us armchair experts as a bumbling, ungainly one-man Brylcreem advert, Chamakh obviously made an impression on Warnock (below) during their brief time together at Selhurst Park.

After all, this is a man who scored five goals in nine Champions League games for Bordeaux in 2009/10, a year after inspiring the French side to only the sixth top flight title in their history under the guidance of Laurent Blanc.
As any Arsenal fan will have no hesitation in telling you, however, that was a very long time ago. On the upside, however, Chamakh has shaved his head. So that’s something. Though he’ll have to do more than that to convince the watching observers that he is anything like an inspired signing.

Well, at least Marouane Chamakh’s good for something…
