You don’t see so many good old fashioned flops these days. In that regard, then, Iago Aspas was something of a throwback. Not that he cares now.

Trying to single out Liverpool’s biggest flop in recent years is like trying to pick your most embarrassing drunken moment. Chances are, you’ve forgotten the majority and the others you wish you could forget.
Therefore, the name Iago Aspas will either elicit a look of perplexed confusion or vivid recollections of miscontrol and wild swipes into the Anfield stand.
A £7.6 million signing from Celta Vigo in 2013, according to the Guardian, the diminutive forward netted just once in a Liverpool shirt, against Oldham Athletic in the FA Cup no less, before scarpering off to Spain without so much as a farewell.

Three years later, however, and suddenly Liverpool fans are scouring Wikipedia and scrolling through YouTube, desperately trying to disprove the nagging feeling that the Iago Aspas who toiled and blundered his way through a short-lived stint on Merseyside is the same player who bullied Barcelona into submission on Sunday night.
Aspas’ first-half stunner set struggling Celta Vigo on their way to a thrilling 4-3 victory over the La Liga Champions almost exactly a year since he netted a sublime chip in the same fixture. By the way, Celta won that one too. 4-1.
No wonder, then, that Liverpool fans are a little bemused. After all, he’s not the only former Liverpool mishit to start the season firing on all cylinders.
