Eurosport are reporting that Raheem Sterling’s contract at Manchester City could be extended, amid interest from Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.

The Daily Mail reported last month that Arsenal are interested in signing Sterling and his City teammate Riyad Mahrez.

The report claimed that the Premier League champions are willing to listen to offers for the England and the Algeria internationals.

Eurosport are now reporting that City plan to hold talks with both Sterling and Mahrez over their future roles at the club.

The report has claimed that England international attacking midfielder’s deal could be extended.

Twist

Following the claims in The Daily Mail, The Athletic reported that Sterling wants to leave City.

We covered that particular report here on HITC Sport.

This new report in Eurosport seems to be a twist regarding the future of Sterling, who can also play as a winger and was described as “unplayable” by former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand on his YouTube channel this month.

It seems that City do not want to sell the former Liverpool star and want to keep him at the club.

This will come as a blow to Arsenal.

Yes, the Gunners will have to pay a lot in transfer fees and salary to sign Sterling, but the 26-year-old will be a brilliant signing.

Sterling has a winning mentality, scores goals, creates chances, is quick, and works hard on the pitch.

However, if City do not want to sell the England international, then there is nothing much that Arsenal can do.

Sander Berge latest

Meanwhile, The Star has reported that Sheffield United could be willing to compromise regarding Sander Berge.

Arsenal are leading the race for the Blades midfielder and have shown more interest in him than Tottenham Hotspur.

United want £35 million as transfer fee for Berge, but they could be tempted to ‘soften their stance if Arsenal agree to reduce – or remove altogether – any performance related clauses which might prove impossible to trigger’.

The Yorkshire club will still want £35 million, but they could decide not to demand that the majority of that money is paid upfront, according to the report.
