West Ham United suffered late heartbreak against Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon, as they threw away a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 at Selhurst Park.

The Hammers went into the game with renewed optimism having come from 2-0 down to beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-2 in the Carabao Cup in midweek.

Slaven Bilic was also given hope of keeping his job, and his trip to face Palace got off to a great start as summer signing Javier Hernandez pounced to open the scoring.

Andre Ayew then made it 2-0, smashing home a superb long-range strike, and the Hammers seemed to be heading for three points at half time – but they collapsed after the break.

Angelo Ogbonna’s foul on Andros Townsend allowed Yohan Cabaye to convert from the penalty spot, and after Michail Antonio had inexplicably given the ball away in the dying embers of injury time, Palace went down the other to snatch an equaliser through Wilfried Zaha.

West Ham were devastated to have thrown away two points, but fans did find something to be happy about – the performance of forward Ayew, who bagged his third goal in a matter of days.

The Ghanaian forward struggled in his first season with the Hammers last term, but fans now feel that he is finally showing why West Ham forked out £20million to sign him in 2016.

Some joked that Ayew has turned into Lionel Messi this week, and are glad to see him finally make inroads in finally living up to his price tag.
