Gary Neville stated that Arsenal fans ‘turned into Geordies’ as they produced a stunning comeback against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.

The Newcastle United faithful are known for their strong following and their trademark of having their tops off, no matter the weather.

Whilst Eddie Howe’s side enjoyed a more comfortable day’s work as they thrashed Crystal Palace 4-0 at St James’ Park yesterday.

It was a tougher evening for those in Arsenal colours, as Mikel Arteta’s side staged a late comeback at Chelsea to earn a 2-2 draw.

Leandro Trossard was the man to equalise with six minutes left on the clock, as Gary Neville referenced Newcastle fans in commentary and added that ‘I love looking at football fans celebrate’, as he told Sky Sports Premier League (21/10/23 at 7:15 pm).

The Arsenal fans had every right to enjoy that moment – just be careful before the celebration police come out – because with 13 minutes left on the clock, they were heading for their first defeat of the season.

But if you want to win the Premier League title, then you have to pull off results and performances such as that.

Arsenal away fans at Chelsea

“They have been as bad as I have seen them Arsenal,” said Neville. “But that’s a good sign.

“They have got their tops off (the Arsenal fans), they have turned into Geordies – when you see a comeback like this, I love looking at football fans celebrate. It was absolute bedlam at that Arsenal end.”

Arsenal v Newcastle United

Last season, the duo produced two high-energy and all-action games, with the London club coming out on top and securing four points.

But Newcastle United will be hoping to put that right and send out their statement of intent this season.

The duo will lock horns on November 4 at St James’ Park and given how Newcastle are steam-rolling teams on their own patch, if Arsenal are still unbeaten by then, it wouldn’t be a surprise if that ‘0’ of Arsenal’s goes.
