Should Tottenham make a move for Manchester United’s Anthony Martial?
Before Manchester United blew them out of the water with a hefty transfer fee in 2015, Tottenham Hotspur were frontrunners to sign Anthony Martial from Monaco.
SkySports reported that chairman Daniel Levy had flown to France for talks with Monaco over a deal, only for Martial to sign a new deal, and then United bought him weeks later.
12 months ago Martial looked happy at United, going on to score a vital FA Cup semi-final winner against Everton, but under Jose Mourinho his situation looks very different.
Manchester United’s Anthony Martial looks dejected
The France international was dropped from the squad entirely for the weekend draw at Stoke City, and has been unable to hold down a first team place all season, in one week and out the next.
Martial was reported to be unhappy at his squad number being switched from nine to 11 to accommodate Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the summer, The Mail reported, and this has been reflected too on the pitch, with the Swede becoming a must start.
Martial has still managed to net six goals this season, but his omission at the weekend was an ominous sign that he is up against it to impress Jose Mourinho.

French website SFR Sport reported at the weekend that Martial’s camp are highly unhappy at Mourinho’s treatment of the forward.
The developing situation should tempt Tottenham to revisit their interest in the Frenchman, and try to tempt United with an offer.
In recent months United have been linked with signing Tottenham’s stars, with Kyle Walker and Danny Rose linked a fortnight ago by The Sun.
A move for Martial would be a case of Tottenham turning the tables on predators United, and Levy could be tempted by a chance to get his man.
