Tottenham announced that they have handed Brandon Austin a new contract until June 2024. Perhaps a surprising decision, given Austin is yet to make his senior debut – but could it spell the end of Pierluigi Gollini?
Austin, 23, has spent time on loan at Viborg and Orlando City in the MLS, while also clocking up 44 games for the U23 side at Tottenham. His previous contract ended in June, but Antonio Conte has given him a new deal.

It shows that perhaps, Conte sees him as good enough to provide cover for Hugo Lloris. Under Conte and Nuno Espirito Santo, Austin has been on the first-team bench 13 times – without making a senior debut for Spurs.
Gollini, 27, has struggled to have an impact at Spurs – keeping just two clean sheets in the 10 games he has played since joining the club on loan from Atalanta. Goal claim Lazio have held talks to sign Gollini for £9million.
Austin deal a sign Tottenham are planning for life without Gollini…
The chances are, that Gollini is not going to be at Tottenham next season. He has not done well enough in the games he has played and with Spurs being knocked out of Europe, he has not had the chance to impress, either.
Hugo Lloris was given a new deal earlier this year despite some suggestions he could overtake the Frenchman when he first joined. Austin’s new deal is another sign that Gollini will leave the club at the end of the season.
A new goalkeeper signing is likely, but Spurs have shown – by offering Austin a new deal – that they are happy with their goalkeeping options even without Gollini.
