Sheffield Wednesday’s on loan defender Michael Hector is a popular figure at Hillsborough.

Sheffield Wednesday supporters have taken to Twitter to have their say on manager Steve Bruce’s desire to bring back defender Michael Hector next season following his impressive loan at Hillsborough.
“We would love to bring Michael Hector back. Whether it’s possible, he’s still a Chelsea player, and we’ll have to speak with Chelsea and see what they want,” Bruce told BBC Radio Sheffield.
The 26-year-old joined Wednesday on a season-long loan deal, and he has been fantastic over the past few months, averaging 5.5 clearances per league game from 35 Championship appearances.
Supporters would seemingly love for Hector to return next season, but the general consensus suggests it could only possibly be another loan with finances tight making a permanent deal unrealistic.
Hector’s contract at Stamford Bridge expires in the summer of 2020. At 26 years of age, it’s unlikely he will break in to the Chelsea first-team squad next season leaving the London club with a potential decision to make.
To recoup a fee for him, it would be illogical to loan him out again and see him walk away for free the following summer. It would be in the Blues’ best interest to seek a fee for him at the end of the current campaign.

But Wednesday’s finances are reportedly tight, with the Telegraph reporting last month how the Owls are in danger of receiving EFL sanctions for failing to comply with Financial Fair Play rules.
Hector joined Chelsea in 2015 from Reading and is currently pocketing £17,000 per week in wages, according to Spotrac. He has been capped 24 times by Jamaica and has spent the past three seasons out on loan.
