Wolves skipper Conor Coady says Adama Traore is ‘a special player’

Wolverhampton Wanderers captain Conor Coady has waxed lyrical over teammate Adama Traore, after the speedy winger netted in stoppage time to hand his side a 1-0 win at West Ham United, BBC Radio Five Live reports.

The former Barcelona man arrived at Wolves in the summer, trading Championship side Middlesbrough for Molineux following a two-year spell at the Riverside Stadium.

Traore, known for his breath-taking speed and wonderful dribbling ability, has started each of Wolves’ Premier League encounters on the bench, and entered the fray late on against a tiring West Ham defence.

Traore made the most of his introduction, as he finished off a fine move to drive home a shot past Lukasz Fabianski in the third minute of stoppage time.

Victory gave Wolves their first three points of the season and speaking to BBC Radio Five Live (September 1^st 2018 at 17:35), defender Coady was full of praise for Traore:

“I try to stay as far away from him [Traore] as possible [in training], he’s rapid isn’t he? He’s a real special player, getting him at the football club was huge for everybody,” Coady explained.

“You can see when he’s been coming on in games. We’ve got some fantastic forward players, they all contribute hugely to our team. We’re very, very lucky to have the forward players here.”

Traore, 22, has an abundance of ability – but his main attributes are his speed and directness with the ball.

His presence and match-winning goal against West Ham leaves Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo with a potential dilemma as Traore will no doubt be pushing for a start in the next game.

But is Traore better suited to coming off the bench? Arguably, due to his standout abilities, Traore plays best against a tired defence and when the game is stretched late on rather than from the outset – although he will no doubt feel that his performances against Manchester City and the Hammers warrant a start in his next match.
