Chelsea star Willian had words of encouragement for teammate Oscar.

Chelsea star Willian says Brazilian compatriot Oscar has overcome over a number of problems from last year and stepped up his game this season.

Oscar has been a regular in the Blues XI since joining the club from Brazilian outfit Internacional in the summer of 2012 for a reported £19.35 million fee.

He has played under Roberto Di Matteo, Rafa Benitez and Jose Mourinho and each coached has praised his ability in the final third and lauded his workrate from a defensive perspective.

This season, the 23-year-old has added somewhat of a goalscoring touch to his game after finding the net in the recent victories over Crystal Palace and Queens Park Rangers.

Oscar has rightfully earned the plaudits of fans and pundits alike for his recent displays and teammate Willian feels he has really stepped up his game from last season.

“Oscar is already a great player.” Willian said, quoted by the Mirror. “Last season, he had too many problems: injuries, mainly, things like that.”

“But this year he has stepped up and is doing well, scoring goals and making assists. He is doing ­everything we need from him.’’

As per the table provided by Opta Stats, Oscar has improved in every category on average from last season and is arguably playing the best football of his career.

From an attacking perspective, he is averaging more goals, shots, key passes and successful dribbles per Premier League fixture this season.

One area which will arguably please his boss Mourinho the most however is his improvement from a defensive perspective – recovering on average 5.5 per game whereas last season he recorded 3.73.
