Paul Cook ,manager of Wigan Athletic looks on during the Sky Bet League One match between Wigan Athletic and Oxford United at DW Stadium on April 17, 2018 in Wigan, England.

Wigan Athletic boss Paul Cook admits he was in awe of Nottingham Forest’s recent performance against West Bromwich Albion as he gives his verdict on his upcoming opponents, Wiganatheltic.com report.

The Latics host Forest this weekend in what should be another exciting Championship fixture.

Wigan’s opening two games of the season both ended 3-2, beating Sheffield Wednesday in the first game of the campaign before losing to a last-minute winner at Aston Villa last weekend.

Forest should pose a different kind of threat for Paul Cook’s men, and the Wigan boss knows of the qualities which the Reds possess having watched them in their 1-1 draw with West Brom 10 days ago.

“I was lucky enough to be at their game against West Brom and I found myself clapping Forest during the game, they were that good,” Cook told Wigan’s official website.

“Sometimes when you come off the pitch and you haven’t won a game like that I’m sure the manager’s thinking to himself what do they have to do because they were absolutely fantastic on the night.

“They play a really good brand of football but we’re preparing ourselves to give Forest a difficult afternoon, and that’s what I want to concentrate on as a manager.”

Are Forest among the favourites for promotion?

Forest are without doubt a contender for promotion this season, having spent more than £25 million in the summer on players such as Lewis Grabban, Hillal Soudani, Michael Hefele and Joao Carvalho.

The Reds have been aided by their apparent link-up with super-agent Jorge Mendes, bringing in three highly-rated Portugal U21 internationals, while they’ve also utilised the loan market well.

Aitor Karanka has championship promotion experience with Middlesbrough, and Forest have already shown similar qualities having conceded just two league goals in their three games thus far.

Wigan will prove a tough test, but Forest have both experience and top attacking quality in their ranks and they will be hopeful of returning from the DW Stadium with all three points.
