Wigan Athletic have slipped down the Championship table in recent games.

Steve McClaren is unveiled as new manager of Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road on May 21, 2018 in London, England.

Wigan Athletic’s on-loan defender Dan Burn believes Queens Park Rangers’ recent surge up the Championship table can act as an inspiration for his side’s search for form, the Wigan Post reports.

“It’s such a tight league, even a win can move you up a few places. You’ve got teams just outside the relegation zone who aren’t too far away from the play-off picture. Look at QPR, and how much they were struggling when they played us the other week,” Burn explained.

“They were up to seventh last week, and you’d never have said that when we played them. We just need to get back to it and get a few wins together, and we’re more than capable given the strength of the squad.”

Queens Park Rangers began the league campaign in dire form, losing their first four games in succession including a 7-1 defeat at West Bromwich Albion and a 3-0 reverse at home to Bristol City.

Since then, manager Steve McClaren has guided the Hoops to seven wins in their last 11 games, and now QPR sit on the brink of the play-offs having won their last three outings.

Wigan, in contrast, started the season brilliantly and the Latics were up to third in the table after beating Bristol City on September 22. At that stage, they were six points ahead of QPR.

Now, though, Wigan find themselves three points behind QPR and in a lowly position of 14th having taken just four points from their last six games – losing four of them.

On the road, Paul Cook’s men have struggled to get going, losing seven of eight matches, and their next two games are against promotion challengers Leeds United and Middlesbrough.

The Latics must find a way to turn their form around as QPR did, and perhaps the biggest inspiration the west London side can offer is how they shored up their defence, with just six goals conceded in their last 11 games.
