Swansea City have been linked with Ayr United’s Lawrence Shankland.

According to a recent report in the Daily Mail, Swansea City are closing in on a deal to sign Ayr United’s Lawrence Shankland and then loan him back to the Scottish club for the rest of the season.
But who is the striker with 26 goals in 23 games this season, in the event that he does end up signing for the Swans in the upcoming January transfer window? We take a look.
1) Shankland was born in Glasgow and came through the Queen’s Park youth system before going on to sign for Aberdeen’s U20 squad at the age of 17.
2) But the now 23-year-old barely featured for the Dons’ first-team, having spent most of his time with the U20 squad and out on loan at the likes of Dunfermline Athletic, St Mirren and Greenock Morton.
3) Shankland has represented Scotland at international youth level, scoring twice for the U21 side.

4) His goal scoring record prior to his move to Ayr United didn’t exactly show much promise, with 32 league goals spread over 128 games giving him an average of one goal every four games in Scotland’s lower leagues.
5) But 54 goals in 55 games at Ayr United, including four in one game where his side thrashed Dundee United 5-0 away from home, has changed his fortunes. Shankland won the League One PFA Scotland Players’ Player of the Year award earlier this year and looks on target to win the Championship version this time around.
