Derby County’s Jamie Hanson has signed a new contract with the club.

Derby County fans have taken to social networking site Twitter to share their views on the news of Jamie Hanson’s new contract extension at the club, with many holding divided opinions.
Hanson came through the Derby academy and has since established himself as a regular in the senior squad, although first-team opportunities have been hard to come by for the midfielder.
The 22-year-old has only made 25 appearances for the club since his debut, with this season being one of his least active to date as boss Gary Rowett has only brought him off the bench three times thus far.
Hanson can play as a holding midfielder or in the full-back slots, offering the club versatility, but so far during his career he has not really shown his true capabilities when given an opportunity.
Derby are currently in the race for a play-off spot, but failure to earn promotion this season could see the club undergo numerous changes to the playing squad this summer as it is currently bloated and unbalanced.

Tom Huddlestone, Joe Ledley, Bradley Johnson and George Thorne are seemingly ahead of Hanson in the pecking order, while fellow midfielders Jacob Butterfield and Craig Bryson are due to return from loan spells this summer.
The fact that Derby have opted to extend Hanson’s deal until 2020 suggests they are keen for him to stick around, perhaps giving the impression one or two other midfielders may soon depart the club permanently.
But is Hanson really good enough for at least the Championship? The midfielder has age on his side, yet a lack of pace and awareness means he has struggled when given a rare opportunity to shine.

Taking to Twitter, Derby fans are seemingly divided by the news, with some happy for the academy product to stay on while others feel the club should be looking at better players.
