Derby County’s Duane Holmes is proving to be a terrific buy.

Derby County supporters have taken to Twitter to comment on midfielder Duane Holmes, following his impressive performance against Premier League opposition Southampton in the FA Cup third round.
The Rams came from 2-0 down to secure a 2-2 draw with the Saints. Jack Marriott pulled one back early in the second half, before Tom Lawrence grabbed a deserved equaliser with an excellent finish minutes later.
Lawrence will no doubt grab the headlines for a goal and an assist, but it was Georgia-born Holmes who was the standout as the diminutive midfielder deservedly scooped the Man of the Match award.
Taking to Twitter, Derby fans think they have a real player on their hands, and insist Holmes must start the upcoming clash against Championship leaders Leeds United at Elland Road.
Holmes joined Derby as a relative unknown in the summer, signing from Scunthorpe United for an undisclosed fee believed to be £500,000 rising to £750,000 (Derby Telegraph).
The 24-year-old is predominantly a winger, but he is also capable of playing in central midfield, driving from deep with his excellent pace and dribbling ability which sees him glide past the opposition with ease.

Derby haven’t had a player with such attributes since Will Hughes, and Holmes is arguably even better at taking on the opposition – although he has some way to go before matching Hughes’ passing ability.
With Mason Mount, Harry Wilson and Tom Huddlestone looking to come back into the side, Holmes has plenty of competition for places, but on recent displays he more than deserves to start the game at Leeds.
