Ipswich Town recorded their first win of the season at Swansea City Saturday.
Ipswich Town supporters have taken to Twitter to lavish praise on winger Gwion Edwards, after he provided the spark to help Paul Hurst’s side record their first Championship win of the season.
The Tractor Boys have endured a tough start to the campaign with new manager Hurst, after going the first 11 games of the season without a win, but that all changed at Swansea as Town fought back to beat Swansea City 3-2.
It was a rollercoaster of a game at the Liberty Stadium as both Swansea and Ipswich led at some point, but after the hosts had dominated the first hour or so, Ipswich midfielder Trevoh Chalobah popped up with a late winner.
While the youngster will no doubt grab the headlines, Ipswich fans were more impressed with Edwards as his trickery out wide – on his return to former club – made a telling difference.
Edwards, 25, became one of Hurst’s first signings for the club, moving to Portman Road in the summer on a two-year deal after impressing in League One with Peterborough United.
The former Wales U21 international is not yet capped for the full national team, but a repeat of his performance at the Liberty Stadium will surely make Wales boss Ryan Giggs to take a closer look at him.
Ipswich’s victory was much-needed – considering Millwall and Preston North End also picked up victories – with the Tractor Boys remaining in the Championship’s bottom three for now, with nine points from 12 games.
Hurst will be hoping the three points will lift the mood around Portman Road, and provide his side with the confidence needed to pull off their first home win in their next league outing against Queens Park Rangers.
