Rangers signed Jason Cummings on loan from Nottingham Forest.
Former Nottingham Forest coach David Weir has suggested that Jason Cummings could be a huge hit at Rangers provided he plays in a good team, the Herald Scotland reports.
The striker rose to prominence in Scotland at Easter Road, becoming the first Hibs player for over 50 years to score more than 20 goals in all competitions in three consecutive seasons.
Cummings’ talent did not go unnoticed south of the border, and Forest ultimately signed him last summer as then-boss Mark Warburton had plenty of knowledge of the player from his time at Rangers.
But the 22-year-old struggled for form at the City Ground, and he has since joined the Gers on loan where he has featured rather sporadically; his last appearance coming in the 2-2 draw at Motherwell.
Speaking to reporters, Weir believes Cummings has an abundance of technical ability, more than he first thought, and went on to say he could still make a big impact at Ibrox under the right circumstances.
“Working day in day out with him at Forest, being honest, he is better technically than I thought he was,” Weir explained.
“Technically he is a very good footballer, he can finish there is no doubt about that and he is a good professional, and sometimes that isn’t the message you get from other people.”
“Jason playing in a good Rangers team and creating chances could score a lot of goals there is no doubt about that.”
Cummings showed glimpses of his raw ability in the Scottish Cup quarter-final victory over Falkirk, scoring all four goals as the Glasgow club routed the Scottish minnows 4-1 at Ibrox.
The Scotland international is without doubt inconsistent, but on the face of it he is still young with plenty to learn. He is the ideal sort of player Rangers need to acquire and help see out their potential.
