Derby County have been linked with Liverpool’s Harry Wilson.
According to a recent report in the Mirror, Derby County are closing in on the loan signing of Liverpool winger Harry Wilson, as new manager Frank Lampard looks to make his first foray in the transfer market.
The former Chelsea midfielder took over the reigns as Derby boss earlier this summer, as former manager Gary Rowett left the club to join Stoke City.
Derby will probably have to cut their payroll before bringing anyone in, something reflected by the departure of Andreas Weimann to Bristol City.
The former Aston Villa man was a first-team regular at Derby last season, although in spite of his hard work and clear effort for the cause, he struggled to make an impact – with just five league goals in 42 appearances.
The Daily Star claim the Robins paid £2 million for the 26-year-old, and if Derby can bring in Wilson on a season-long loan with cash to spare, then that would represent an excellent first piece of business for Lampard.
Wilson is highly-rated by the Merseyside club, and the 21-year-old displayed his enormous potential in a brief loan spell with Hull City last term – scoring seven goals and adding three assists in just 11 starts.
The Reds youngster will be a like-for-like replacement for Weimann with his best position out on the wide left, yet his record for the Tigers last season demonstrates how he is clearly a much more efficient player.
Derby are short of quality in the wide areas, but Wilson will help resolve that. He boasts plenty of ability and given a long run in the side, he could be a huge player in the Rams’ bid for another Championship promotion challenge.
