Tottenham Hotspur lost 2-1 at home to Liverpool in Saturday’s early kick off.
Former England international Chris Waddle lamented Tottenham Hotspur’s inability to create chances against Liverpool, as he claiming that there is something not right about the north London side, the BBC report.
“I can’t remember Tottenham creating a single chance in the final third… and they are the home side! Pretty football at times but nothing dangerous at all,” Waddle said to BBC Radio Five Live.
“There is something not right about Spurs, with their energy levels seemingly so low. Has Kane had a single shot? Has Eriksen been on the pitch in this second half?”
Tottenham’s defeat, their second in succession in the Premier League, leaves them six points behind early league leaders Liverpool and Chelsea.
Spurs were lethargic against Liverpool, and their biggest downfall was a lack of cohesion in midfield, and their ability to get attacking players Lucas Moura, Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane into the game.
With Mauricio Pochettino’s side intent on playing out from the back, they need creativity in midfield or a player who can burst through and break the lines, allowing Eriksen and Moura to get themselves into dangerous positions.
But the Reds bossed the midfield with ease at Wembley Stadium, with Spurs trio Mousa Dembele, Eric Dier and Harry Winks failing to register a single key pass – and made just three tackles between them (Whoscored). Liverpool’s James Milner, in contrast, registered three key passes and five tackles alone.
Tottenham made the decision not to buy anyone this past summer, and already it’s looking like the wrong move, with a midfield area that surely needed strengthening.
