Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany claimed his side were set to face their hardest game of the season prior to comfortably defeating Arsenal 3-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday, the Manchester Evening News report.

Pep Guardiola’s men won their first trophy of the season last weekend, beating Arsenal 3-0 at Wembley with the old guard of Sergio Aguero, Kompany and David Silva grabbing the goals.

Pundits and observers alike blasted the Gunners’ performance that day, and many expected a huge response from Arsene Wenger’s men as they hosted City at the Emrates on Thursday evening.

Speaking prior to the game, Kompany described the North Londoners as a wounded animal and predicted they would give the Citizens their hardest game of the season thus far.

“My opinion is simple. I think it’s going to be the hardest game of the season. If my experience counts for anything – you will play a wounded animal, with a lot of quality in the team,” Kompany told MEN.

Kompany’s comments arguably made sense at the time, but Arsenal again failed to lay a glove on City as the visitors ran riot in an opening period which saw them tie up the game by the half-time interval.

Bernardo Silva, David Silva and Leroy Sane were the goal scorers this time as Guardiola’s side were 3-0 up after 35 minutes, and from then on, the Premier League leaders played out the rest of the game in cruise control.

The disappointment among supporters at Arsenal’s current situation was illustrated by the apathy shown at the full-time whistle, with only a section booing while the majority could not even be bothered with that.

Complacency is rife throughout the club, and with ten games remaining it is simply incredible that Arsenal are closer to bottom club West Bromwich Albion points-wise than they are from champions-elect City.
