Middlesbrough boss Tony Pulis has hit back at Martin Braithwaite.

Middlesbrough manager Tony Pulis believes Martin Braithwaite has shown a lack of disrespect after the Boro player took aim at the club’s playing style under the former West Bromwich Albion boss, Northern Echo report.

“He is the highest-earning Championship player I have ever worked with. When I was at West Brom in the Premier League, I don’t think there was many players earning as much as what Braithwaite is earning,” Pulis explained.

“The disrespect he’s shown the area and the football club is astonishing for someone who has taken so much out of this football club and given so (little) back. For him to talk the way he’s talked it’s really disappointing.”

Pulis’s comments come as a result of Braithwaite telling reporters on international duty how he was sold a different project at Boro, and the team’s current playing style is cited as kick and rush.

The Denmark international joined Middlesbrough for £9 million in the summer of 2017. The attacker was signed by former manager Garry Monk, who lasted just over half a season before being replaced by Pulis.

Braithwaite currently finds himself on loan at Leganes after joining the La Liga club in January. However, the Spanish club don’t have a purchase option, and the player suggests they won’t be able to afford him.

With a contract until 2021, Braithwaite’s future is undecided as he admits he can’t imagine returning to the Boro set-up, and he may well now have burned his bridges even if the club win promotion back to the top-flight.

Braithwaite played a total of 40 games for Boro in all competitions, scoring nine goals.

Boro host Championship leaders Norwich City this weekend, with the aim now to consolidate a top six spot and rely on the playoff lottery in their bid to return to the Premier League.
