Blackburn Rovers manager Tony Mowbray has told reporters that the club are in the process of offering Corry Evans a new contract with his current deal expiring next summer, the Lancashire Telegraph report.

“That’s something we’re sorting out at the moment as we’ve done for quite a while now,” Mowbray said of a potential new contract for midfielder Evans.

“The players we feel we want to move forward with we’ve re-engaged with. I think Corry fits in to that equation. I would be pretty hopeful there will be something to announce on that in the next few weeks.”

Evans has become a consistent figure in Blackburn’s midfield, missing just three of the past 28 matches in all competitions, lining up alongside fellow regular Richie Smallwood. The 51-capped Northern Ireland international turned 28 last July, and he is now approaching his peak years.

The former Manchester United youth player has made over 150 appearances for Rovers since moving to Ewood Park in 2013, and he has struck up an excellent relationship with the club’s supporters.

Elliot Bennett and Charlie Mugrew also signed new contract extensions at Blackburn this past week.

Blackburn sit just outside the Championship playoffs following their promotion from League One last term, and keeping their squad together will be key in their bid to push for the top six and a shot at Premier League football.
