Graham Potter, head coach of Ostersunds FK looks on during UEFA Europa League Round of 32 match between Arsenal and Ostersunds FK at the Emirates Stadium on February 22, 2018 in London,...

Swansea City boss Graham Potter believes Nottingham Forest have made some very good signings this past summer and have the quality to push at the top end of the table, he told the club’s official website.

“They have used the transfer market quite aggressively to try to get promoted and they have signed some very good players. They have a manager who knows how to win games and who knows what it’s like to win promotion at this level,” Potter explained to Swanseacity.com.

“Nottingham Forest are a fantastic, traditional club. I think they have enough quality to be pushing at the top end of the table this season, but like everyone they are probably looking for a bit of consistency. Certainly, we know it will be a tough test for us.”

A game between two potential promotion rivals?

Both Swansea City and Forest have been tipped to be among those challenging for promotion this season, yet both went about their business in contrasting ways over the summer.

The Swans, recently relegated from the Premier League, made just a handful of additions to their first-team squad – such as Declan John and Bersant Celina – as they brought in far much more money via selling the likes of Sam Clucas, Roque Mesa, Alfie Mawson and Lukasz Fabianski than they shelled out.

Forest, meanwhile, were one of the Championship’s biggest spenders as Aitor Karanka signed a host of new players including splashing out a club record transfer fee for Portuguese talent Joao Carvalho.

The Reds didn’t have a good season last time out, and under Karanka they’ve only won four Championship matches in their last 16 games overall stretching back to last March – adding extra pressure.

Swansea, meanwhile, have taken 11 points from their first six Championship fixtures.

Both teams may take a while before they hit top gear, but when they do it wouldn’t be a surprise to see at least one in the top six come next May and with a shot of reaching the Premier League.
