Stuart Webber explains why Norwich City should be favourites for PL relegation

Norwich City and Sheffield United have secured promotion to the Premier League.

Norwich City sporting director Stuart Webber claims the Norfolk club should be the favourites for Premier League relegation next season as they will operate with the lowest budget, Sky Sports report.

“We should be favourites to go down because we’ll have the lowest budget and we’ll have the lowest transfer funds available,” Webber told Sky Sports.

“What this promotion has enabled us to do is pay off the training ground which is being built, which is important to us, because it means we’ve got something to show from being in the Premier League.

“We’re still paying for some of the mistakes of times gone by and some of the expensive signings. This allows us to clear all of that out and realign ourselves as a club.”

Norwich secured promotion after beating Blackburn Rovers 2-1 last weekend. It has come as a surprise to most as the Canaries found themselves in lower mid-table last season and sold their best players.

Daniel Farke, however, has utilised his contacts abroad to great effect and Norwich’s promotion has been built on both excellent recruitment and the breakthrough of academy talents such as Max Aarons and Ben Godfrey.

Players such as Emiliano Buendia, Teemu Pukki, Moritz Leitner, Mario Vrancic, Onel Hernandez and Tom Trybull have all arrived over the past 18 months for bargain fees and have produced beyond expectation.

Norwich are capable of progressing in the Premier League on a strict budget, but the competition in quality is much higher so the recruitment has to be spot on this summer to give them the best chance of survival.

Webber goes on to add that Norwich won’t be following in Fulham’s footsteps and making several changes. He predicts the Canaries will add up to five new players maximum, giving them a small margin for error.
