Tottenham Hotspur’s Christian Eriksen has been linked with Barcelona.

According to a report in Sport, Barcelona have identified Tottenham Hotspur’s Christian Eriksen as an alternative option should the Spanish champions not sign Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann.
It is expected that Barcelona sign Griezmann this summer with the France ace top of their wish-list, yet Eriksen has been cited by the Spanish editorial as a primary option on their plan B list.
Spurs could command a mega fee for the Denmark international following his terrific campaign in north London but selling him now would be a step in the wrong direction for the White Hart Lane club.
Tottenham have had a terrific transfer policy over the past decade which has seen them purchase players with huge potential, sell them on for big fees later down the line and reinvest in the first-team.

The likes of Gareth Bale, Luka Modric and Kyle Walker have all left for big-money fees over the years, and their exits have ultimately been necessary for Spurs to progress and establish themselves as one of the ‘big six’.
Three successive top three Premier League finishes and last season’s run to the last 16 in the Champions league illustrates their progress, but now is the time for club to challenge for trophies.
It seems Mauricio Pochettino’s men are on the verge of landing silverware, therefore selling any of their prized assets regardless of potential profits makes little sense considering their current position.

Eriksen was brilliant last season, reaching double figures in both goals and assists. Alongside Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Toby Alderweireld, he is one of the best players in the Premier League in his respective position.
Selling him to Barcelona for a Gareth Bale-type fee would see Spurs make a huge profit on him, but how do they replace him with like-for-like ability now without significantly increasing their wage bill?
Aside from his ability, Eriksen’s moderate wages of £75,000 per week (Spotrac) makes him an even more desirable player to keep, as in today’s market a replacement of his quality could easily demand double.
