Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane is the leading scorer at the World Cup.
Gareth Southgate has suggested that Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane is better than Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo following his hat-trick for England on Sunday, the BBC report.
The Spurs ace followed up his double against Tunisia with another three goals for England as the Three Lions booked their place in the World Cup knockout stage with a resounding 6-1 win over Panama.
Kane netted two unstoppable first-half penalties before a fortuitous third in the second period to become the first man since former Barcelona and Spurs striker Gary Lineker in 1986 to score a World Cup hattrick.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Southgate was full of praise for the England striker and claimed there was no better centre-forward at the World Cup – including Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo.
“He’s up at the top (of the list of great players). What is great for me is the way he sacrifices himself for the team by holding the ball up and when he gets opportunities we know he will bury them,” the 47-year-old told the BBC.
“We wouldn’t swap him for anyone at the tournament in terms of number nines.”
Kane currently tops the scoring charts at the World Cup, one ahead of Manchester United’s Romelu Lukaku and Real Madrid’s Ronaldo following the latter’s hattrick against Spain and single strike against Morocco.
While ultimately the only thing that matters is the team winning matches, the likes of Lukaku, Ronaldo and Kane will be hoping to further add to their tallies as every centre-forward craves goals.
Ronaldo has scored over 50 goals in all competitions for both club and country this season, while Kane has posted very similar numbers having netted 41 times in all competitions for Spurs.
With Kane still only 24, the 6ft 2inch striker can get even better and boasts all the ingredients needed to go on and become the world’s best striker and a potential Balon d’Or winner.
