Watford midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure has pulled on the heart strings of both Hornets and Everton supporters, as he left a teasing Twitter message reading ‘wait and see’ amid transfer speculation.
According to a recent report in RMC’s live blog (Thursday July 12 at 14:31pm), the Toffees saw a £22.1 million flat fee plus future bonuses bid for the midfielder turned down by the Hornets.
Newly-appointed Everton manager Marco Silva worked with the former France U21 international while in charge at Vicarage Road from the summer of 2017 until his sacking in early 2018.
The Portuguese boss will know all about his qualities and, with the Toffees looking to break into the top six, signing Doucoure would represent excellent business both in the short-term and long-term.
But Watford surely will not allow their prize asset to leave without a fight, while the player himself may have the final decision, and it seems he has already got both sets of supporters talking.
Taking to Twitter, Doucoure posted a cryptic message following by a thinking emoji, prompting responses from some Watford fans believing a new contract is in store while some Everton fans mull over a potential transfer.
The 25-year-old made 37 Premier League appearances for Watford last term and scored an impressive seven goals despite not being a particularly attack-minded player.
According to Spotrac, the former Rennes man earns just £20,000 per week therefore a potential move to Goodison Park or a new deal at Vicarage Road could see him in line for a huge pay rise.
