Former Bristol City man Aden Flint has traded Middlesbrough for Cardiff City.
Some Bristol City supporters have taken to Twitter to poke fun at both Cardiff City and Middlesbrough after it was confirmed that defender Aden Flint has joined the Bluebirds after just one year on Teesside.
The Sun report the package deal to sign Flint will cost Cardiff around £6 million, £1 million less than the fee Middlesbrough paid Bristol City to take him to the Riverside Stadium 12 months ago.
Flint had a terrible time at Boro. Despite making 39 Championship appearances, he struggled for form under manager Tony Pulis and the Teesside club disappointingly missed out on a top six spot.
Bristol City, meanwhile, replaced Flint with Adam Webster who arrived from Ipswich Town in a reported £5 million deal. Out of the two, the Robins evidently got the much better deal.
It has been reported by the Bristol Post how Bristol City don’t stand to gain anything from Flint’s move to Cardiff as Boro are posting a loss, but some City supporters feel that isn’t the case as they mock their rivals.
Flint, 30, was a fan favourite at Ashton Gate but he was arguably sold at peak value. Selling him and re-investing in Adam Webster now appears to be a fantastic decision from Lee Johnson’s side.
According to Sky Sports, Aston Villa failed with a £12 million bid for Webster. At 24, he has his best years ahead of him and his price is only likely to increase in the coming seasons with more experience.
Bristol City have been one the Championship’s leading clubs for player sales over the past 12 months. They have cashed in on Flint, Joe Bryan, Lloyd Kelly and Bobby Reid for over £30 million combined.
