Werder Bremen central defender Milos Veljkovic is performing well of late, suggesting he is now worth around 15 times more than the figure Tottenham Hotspur reportedly sold him for back in early 2016.

The 22-year-old joined Tottenham as a youth team player back in 2011 from Swiss champions Basel, and he went on to make his Premier League debut in 2014 in a 5-1 home win over Sunderland.

The 6ft 2inch defender was highly regarded as a top youngster at Spurs, and in order to aid his development he went out on loan at Championship sides Middlesbrough and Charlton Athletic in 2015.

Veljkovic, however, struggled for first-team appearances and with his contract expiring at Spurs, the club were happy to sell him to Werder Bremen during the January transfer window in 2016.

According to reports in the Daily Mail, the Bundesliga club paid around £500,000 for his services.

Since then, Veljkovic has gone in to establish himself as a first-team member at the German club and his impressive performances have earned him international recognition with the Serbia national team.

The former Spurs man has made 23 Bundesliga starts for the club this season, averaging 1.8 tackles, 1.7 interceptions and an impressive 4.3 effective clearances per league encounter (Whoscored).

In fact, his average 4.3 effective clearances per game is the 15th best in the Bundesliga, ranking higher than highly-rated Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah, who incidentally has been linked with a move to Tottenham as a possible replacement for Toby Alderweireld, as reported by the Daily Mail.

Werder Bremen’s 30 goals conceded so far this term is the fourth best in the Bundesliga, with only Bayern Munich, Eintracht Frankfurt and Stuttgart conceding less.

Veljkovic has no doubt played a key role in his side’s impressive defensive record and considering his age and top-flight experience, he could well now fetch at least £7.5 million in today’s market should Bremen wish to sell.
