Bournemouth’s Jermain Defoe has been linked with a move to the Championship.

According to a report in the Nottingham Post, Bournemouth striker Jermain Defoe is open to joining Nottingham Forest in the January transfer window.
The experienced striker has fallen out of favour at Bournemouth and with the report highlighting Forest’s interest in the player last summer, it’s suggested they may now stand a better chance of getting him.
Signing Defoe in January would be a masterstroke by Forest boss Aitor Karanka, and it’s a deal which could push the East Midlands club a step closer to a long-awaited return to the Premier League.
Forest are going strong in the Championship this term as they sit in seventh position, two points shy of the top six and eight points behind Leeds United in the second automatic promotion spot.
The Reds have only lost three league games this season, equalling the best in the Championship, but the reason they aren’t higher in the table is due to the amount of draws they have – a league-high 10.
Lewis Grabban has been grabbing the goals for Aitor Karanka’s men as he tops the league scoring charts with 14 strikes, but beyond him Forest are lacking in match-winners capable of turning draws into wins.

Defoe has built his career on being in the right place at the right time. The 36-year-old doesn’t rely on pace or height to score his goals. He is a real poacher who has a knack of being in the right place at the right time – scoring over 270 career goals.
It is reported Sheffield United are keen on the Cherries ace (The Sun), but Forest getting him ahead of their rivals would not only boost their own goal scoring potential but also dent a fellow promotion rival.
Defoe could be Forest’s go-to man to take the pressure of Grabban, and if his goals could turn another five draws into victories over the next half of the season, then those extra points would surely seal at least a top six spot.
