Derby County have been linked with Dundee’s Glen Kamara.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, Derby County manager Frank Lampard is looking to beat old England teammate – and now Rangers boss – Steven Gerrard to the signing of Dundee’s Glen Kamara.
The report clams Lampard has been impressed by recent scouting reports and will weigh up making an offer. Kamara is naturally a holding midfielder who came through the youth ranks at Arsenal.
Derby currently boast a host of midfield players, with Tom Huddlestone, George Evans, George Thorne and Bradley Johnson all vying for that holding role – with Mason Mount and Craig Bryson pushing forward.
Huddlestone is currently Lampard’s first-choice, while Evans was signed in the summer from Reading with one eye on the future. But bringing in Kamara in January raises question marks over Thorne and Johnson’s future prospects at Derby.
Thorne’s contract expires in 2020 and it appears doubtful that he can regain his best form following several long-term injuries. Johnson, however, turns 32 in April and his contract expires next summer. The former Norwich City man was signed during Derby’s hefty spending during the summer of 2015, and he joined for a reported £6 million (Sky Sports) – a then club record fee.

With Frank Lampard keen to bring the average age of the squad down and introduce fast-paced, high-pressing attacking football, Johnson’s face doesn’t really fit, and Kamara’s possible arrival would only push him further down the Pride Park pecking order.
