Sheffield Wednesday have won three straight games in the Championship.

Sheffield Wednesday attacker Marco Matias has suggested to the Sheffield Star that a renewed togetherness and a desire to work hard for each other is the reason behind their upturn in good form.

He said: “It is hard work. It starts with the gaffer and finishes with the players. We fixed the things that went wrong in the Brentford game. Everyone now understands we need to work for each other and for the team to help each other. The collective is the most important thing. We are acting like a team.”

The Owls endured a poor start to their Championship campaign, picking up just one point from their first three games as the drew at home to Hull City while losing at Brentford and newly-promoted Wigan Athletic.

After being unable to strengthen the squad during the summer transfer window due to a transfer embargo, Wednesday supporters were no doubt fearing the worst following their 2-0 defeat at Brentford.

But since then, Jos Luhukay’s men have gone on to win three straight Championship games all by a 2-1 score-line, with the latest coming at the Madejski Stadium against Paul Clement’s Reading.

Seeing the likes of Barry Bannan and Tom Lees return to full fitness has no doubt made a difference, but arguably the biggest difference is seeing the side rely less on individual play to win games.

Previously there was an overreliance on the likes of Fernando Forestieri to come up with that inspiration in the final third, but the Argentine has in contrast started all three of his side’s recent wins on the bench.

With games against Stoke City, Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa, Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion on the horizon, it is a tricky spell for Wednesday and supporters may know more about their potential playoff credentials when the next international break comes around.
