Sheffield Wednesday’s Daniel Pudil is out of contract next summer.
Sheffield Wednesday defender Daniel Pudil has said that this season could be his last shot at reaching the Premier League as he mulls over his future, the Sheffield Star report.
The Czech international defender joined the Owls from Watford in the summer of 2015, initially joining on a season-long loan deal before making his move to Hillsborough permanent.
Pudil has been a key fixture for Wednesday during their two failed playoff attempts, and now with just one season left on his contract the ageing defender feels this could be his last shot at promotion.
“Probably, it [this season] will be my last chance,” he responded when asked whether he could achieve promotion with the club.
“I will be 33 in September. Let’s see if I can have another two or three years maybe over here, so this will be one of my last chances to get in the Premier league.”
“Since I came, I have tried to do my best in every single game and have got close to the Premier League. It didn’t happen, but let’s see what will happen this season.”

The former Watford man’s contract expires next summer, and with the player turning 33 next month it’s unlikely the club will hold onto him should they fail to achieve promotion to the Premier League.
It has been suggested the Yorkshire club are extremely tight when it comes to complying with Financial Fair Play rules (The Star) and being an experienced member it’s likely Pudil is among the club’s highest earners.
Remaining in the Championship and retaining Pudil on his current wages doesn’t appear to be a sensible option for Wednesday, and the same can be said of a few of his fellow ageing teammates.
This season could be it for the 32-year-old in terms of finally helping the Owls earn promotion, but without any investment this summer Jos Luhukay’s men certainly have the odds against them.
