Sam Allardyce admits turning down Bolton Wanderers approaches due to a lack of ambition

Sam Allardyce has spoken out on the situation at former club Bolton Wanderers.

Former manager Sam Allardyce has suggested he has turned down approaches to return as Bolton Wanderers boss due to a lack of ambition from potential buyers, Talksport report.

“Some people who have been looking to buy the club have contacted me and asked me about my position, in terms of if I would take a role back at the Wanderers,” Allardyce admits.

“But none of the people I spoke with have showed enough ambition financially to take the club into a good, stable position and build it to go forward to try and get back into the Premier League.”

Bolton are facing a pivotal week as the High Court will hear a winding-up petition issued by HMRC over an unpaid tax bill of £1.2 million.

Owner Ken Anderson is reported to have been trying to sell the club ahead of the hearing, and a deal is said to be close though the situation has prompted the players to go on strike.

Bolton are struggling in the Championship table and currently sit in the relegation zone with just seven games remaining. The club are in desperate need of a change, both on and off the field.

Allardyce was in charge of the Lancashire side’s best campaigns in recent times as he guided the club to the Premier League and later established them there as a top half side.

Wanderers reached a League Cup final and played in Europe under Allardyce’s guidance while the club managed to sign renowned players such as Jay Jay Okocha and Nicolas Anleka.

Nowadays it’s a different story for Bolton, and it seems they face an uphill struggle over the next few years to even be able to compete for a place in the top-flight unless they receive the necessary investment.
