Rangers signed reported former Derby County target Glen Kamara in January.

According to a recent report by TEAMtalk, Brighton and Hove Albion are interested in signing Rangers ace Glen Kamara; speculation that should prove a reminder to Derby County and what they missed out on.
Kamara only joined Rangers from Dundee in January in a deal worth £100,000; a bargain fee as Kamara’s contract at Dundee was set to expire this coming summer.
Derby’s reported interest in the Finland international was highlighted in October last year. It was said in the Daily Mail that the Rams, along with Sunderland and Swansea City, were among the club’s south of the border tracking him.
Rangers, however, were the only club with serious intent to sign him. The Scottish Premiership may not be ranked among Europe’s elite leagues, yet there seems a reluctance to gamble on players north of the border.
John McGinn’s impressive performances at Villa should have served as a reminder of the potential talent up in Scotland, but Derby evidently did not press ahead with their interest and it now looks like a big error.
The holding midfield position is one which Derby boss Frank Lampard must rectify this summer. It has long been a problematic role, what with George Thorne suffering multiple lengthy injuries and Bradley Johnson struggling to establish himself there.

Kamara, 23, is young, strong on the ball, a determined runner and quick out of possession. He would have been ideal in Lampard’s system, and his form at Rangers after immediately breaking in to Steven Gerrard’s starting XI has only highlighted what a bargain he really was.
Should Brighton move for him this summer, the Gers have every right to hold out for a huge fee as the Premier League riches has already seen the Seagulls spend eight-figure fees on players.
Derby’s decision to sign Graeme Shinnie from Aberdeen on a free transfer is at least some indication they are learning from their mistakes, yet Kamara will long represent a hugely missed opportunity.
