West Ham United’s Michail Antonio has been linked with Crystal Palace.
According to Sky Sports (live transfer blog, July 12 at 15:25), West Ham United winger Michail Antonio is keen to remain in London with Crystal Palace considering making a £15 million move.
The Hammers are said to be looking at recouping some money with Felipe Anderson expected to arrive next, taking their spending to £90 million, and the East London club are reportedly willing to sell Antonio.
The former Nottingham Forest winger was a big hit at the club during Slaven Bilic’s reign, but towards the back-end of last season he struggled to nail down a regular starting spot after falling out of favour.
Now, with the impending arrival of Anderson added to the inclusion of Ukraine international Andriy Yarmolenko, Antonio will likely find himself surplus to requirements and heading for a London Stadium exit.
Palace are themselves looking to bolster their ranks this summer, but they may see Antonio as an ideal replacement for Andros Townsend who has been heavily linked with a return to Newcastle United.
The Magpies were said to be in talks with Palace over a deal for Townsend, according to The Sun, but any potential deal for the England winger may depend on selling Matt Ritchie to Championship side Stoke City.
If the Eagles push ahead in their attempts to sign West Ham’s Antonio, they could be boosted by the player’s preference to remain in the capital for family reasons, as cited by Sky Sports.
Antonio has scored or made 32 goals in 90 games since joining the Hammers from Forest three years ago, and at 28 you would assume he still has the best part of his career ahead of him.
