According to the Mirror, Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard is set to sign a new four-year deal at the club despite coming in for criticism following his ineffective display against Manchester City Saturday.
The report claims Lingard’s future at the club had been in limbo following Jose Mourinho’s arrival, yet now terms on a new contract extension are expected to be finalised soon.
Lingard came through the Manchester United ranks and after struggling to break through to the first-team, was later sent out on loan to the Championship with the likes of Derby County and Brighton and Hove Albion.

The 23-year-old returned to Manchester United in the summer of 2015, and soon started to feature under then boss Louis van Gaal, scoring the FA Cup winner against Crystal Palace at Wembley last May.
The versatile attacking player made his first league start in the Manchester derby this weekend, yet he struggled to make his mark and was replaced at half-time with City leading 2-1.

Mourinho later told the Mirror, perhaps hinting at Lingard’s display: “We started the game with players below the normal level. We need to be sharp in the way we think, the way we play.”
Despite the criticism, Manchester United seemingly see the player as a long-term prospect, and he will no doubt have more chances to impress Mourinho over the course of the next few months.
