Sunderland reportedly want to sign Reading’s Marc McNulty on a loan deal.
According to a report in the Reading Chronicle, Sunderland are keen on signing Reading striker Marc McNulty on loan until the end of the season.
The 26-year-old striker only joined Reading last summer, arriving from Coventry City for a fee in the region of £1 million on a four-year deal.
But McNulty has struggled to get going in a Reading shirt, making just four Championship starts (scoring once), with his last start coming at the beginning of December in the 2-0 home defeat to Sheffield United.
Following the dismissal of Paul Clement as manager, McNulty is said to have been put on the transfer list at the Madejski Stadium as new boss Jose Gomes looks to make funds available this month.
McNulty may have struggled at Reading, but prior to his move to Berkshire he was in fine form for Coventry down in League Two, scoring 23 goals last season as the Sky Blues won promotion.
The Edinburgh-born striker arguably just needs a run of games to rediscover his form, and at Sunderland he could find first-team opportunities easier to come by.
The Black Cats are clearly concerned that they will lose top scorer Josh Maja this month with his contract expiring in the summer, and they may see McNulty as a suitable replacement.
