Newcastle United have been linked with Manchester United’s Victor Valdes.
According to the Mirror, Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has turned down Newcastle United’s offer to take out of favour goalkeeper Victor Valdes on loan.
The report states that van Gaal still feels strongly about their well-documented feud and is unwilling to grant him a move away from the club amid strong interest from Newcastle.
“Louis van Gaal has blocked Newcastle’s attempt to sign Victor Valdes on loan. The Manchester United boss has refused to allow the former Barcelona keeper to move to another Premier League club as their feud continues,” the Mirror says.
Newcastle are seemingly on the lookout for a new goalkeeper this month as they seek cover for current number one Rob Elliot after Tim Krul was ruled out of action with a long-term injury.
Valdes has been on the books of United for a year, first training with the club as he recovered from injury before penning a permanent deal at Old Trafford after impressing in training.
However, a lack of first-team opportunities has caused tensions between the former Barcelona shot-stopper and van Gaal and they were later involved in a drawn-out dispute over the summer.
Valdes now trains alone following his banishment from the first-team, yet a proposed move away from the club has so far been dismissed and the situation does not look like improving.
Newcastle have Karl Darlow as a fellow goalkeeping option, yet the 25-year-old’s lack of top-flight experience has prompted boss Steve McClaren to look at potential alternatives.
