Nottingham Forest signed Jack Colback on loan from Newcastle United last season.

According to a report in the Chronicle, Nottingham Forest’s decision to sack manager Martin O’Neill places further doubts over the future of Newcastle United midfielder Jack Colback.
Forest officially announced their decision to release O’Neill of his duties at the City Ground. The former Republic of Ireland boss has swiftly been replaced by Frenchman Sabri Lamouchi.
Colback spent the past two years on loan at Forest. The 29-year-old enjoyed playing under O’Neill, and the Chronicle claimed the departed Reds boss was keen on signing the midfielder.
But now the situation has changed. First, Rafa Benitez’s exit from Newcastle gives Colback the chance to impress a new manager at St. James’ Park. And at the City Ground, O’Neill’s successor Lamouchi may opt against trying to bring Colback back to the East Midlands club for a third time.
Colback, who is also capable of playing at left-back, made 38 Championship starts for the Reds last season. The Chronicle add he could be available for as little as £1 million – a potential bargain in an inflated market.

It will be interesting to see which direction Forest go in from this moment forward. Lamouchi recently became a client of Portuguese super-agent Jorge Mendes, which could influence the club’s transfer business.
Wolverhampton Wanderers showed how linking up with Mendes can prove to be hugely beneficial as the Molineux club stormed to the Championship title before finishing in the top half of the Premier League last term.
