Manchester United have been linked with Chelsea’s Reece James.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, Manchester United have been monitoring Chelsea’s Reece James this season as they weigh up a potential move for a youngster on loan at Wigan Athletic.

James joined the Latics on a season-long loan and has impressed at the DW Stadium. The 19-year-old has featured 43 times for the Lancashire club at both right-back and in midfield, earning a spot in the Championship Team of the Year.

While Wigan would no doubt love to retain his services beyond the summer, James’s impressive displays have attracted the interest of higher profile clubs and United are the latest to be linked.

The Red Devils have a big summer ahead of them as they will surely look to offload a number of underachievers and start a new recruitment policy under recently appointed manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

James has come through the Chelsea youth ranks and he captained the U18 side to the FA Youth Cup in 2017-18, winning the Academy Player of the Season award in the process.

Chelsea have a huge list of talented young players on their books. Fellow academy graduates Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori are on loan at Derby County, who are pushing for promotion to the Premier League.

James would have plenty of competition for places should he opt to remain at Stamford Bridge for the duration of his contract, which expires in 2022, but he certainly has the talent to break through.

The Daily Mail add that he is valued at £15 million and, at such a price, he may have a long list of potential suitors.
