According to a report in the Ipswich Star, Ipswich Town are in talks with Bury’s Danny Mayor over a summer move to Portman Road but they face competition for his signature.

Mayor’s contract at Bury expires this month and he is expected to leave the club. The Ipswich Star reports that Plymouth Argyle and Tranmere Rovers are also vying for his signature.

Ipswich, however, should be deemed favourites to sign the 28-year-old as manager Paul Lambert sets his sights on returning the Tractor Boys to the Championship following their relegation to League One.

The Suffolk club have been busy this summer. They have already signed goalkeeper Tomas Holy from Gillingham, while striker James Norwood arrived from Tranmere after topping the League Two scoring charts last term.

Mayor was a consistent performer during Bury’s League Two promotion last season, scoring ten goals. At 28, he has plenty of experience having previously had spells at Preston North End and Sheffield Wednesday.

The Ipswich Star claims Bury’s financial woes were the reason for not offering the winger a new contract, and now Mayor is weighing up his options ahead of next season.

Plymouth are said to have already given him a tour around the League Two club, but Mayor may feel that he has the tools to feature regularly in League One leaving Ipswich or Tranmere his likely destination.
