According to The Telegraph, Hull City are ready to smash their transfer record and sign Bristol City’s Jonathan Kodjia in a £14 million deal ahead of rivals Derby County and Aston Villa.
The report claims that City will demand an initial £10 million with an additional £4 million in add-ons, and Hull are ready to pay the price as they look to bolster their squad ahead of Wednesday’s deadline.
The Tigers have begun life back in the Premier League in decent fashion as two wins from their opening three matches have certainly answered a lot of their pre-season critics.
Having said that, Mike Phelan’s side are still short on numbers and it will only take a further injury or two to really unravel them unless they manage to bring in some fresh faces before Wednesday.
The club are light down the spine of the team, and with question marks over Abel Hernandez’s future at the club they could find themselves without a serious goal threat should they fail to act within the next few days.
Kodjia is regarded as one of the best forwards in the Championship, and it comes as little surprise to see clubs eyeing him up before the deadline such is his goal-scoring prowess.
The Ivory Coast international netted 19 league goals in a struggling Robbins side last term, and considering his age some could argue he would be a better prospect than the likes of Ross McCormack.
Villa and Derby are both keen to strengthen before the deadline despite already splashing the cash this summer, yet it appears Kodjia is bound for the Premier League.
The report suggests the Tigers are in pole position to sign him, and his exclusion from Bristol’s 3-1 win over Villa on Saturday would suggest a deal for the striker might not be too far away.
