According to The Sun, Hull City are eyeing a £7 million deal for Derby County’s Jeff Hendrick.

The report claims that the Tigers’ move for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Ryan Mason has hit a snag, prompting the club to turn their attentions to Hendrick having enquired for the Derby man.

Hull have started life back in the Premier League in decent fashion, picking up two victories from three games including an opening day win over champions Leicester City.

Their squad, however, is extremely short on numbers following a succession of injuries during pre-season and boss Mike Phelan knows he needs to add one or two before the upcoming deadline.

Hendrick came through the Derby youth academy and is now widely regarded as one of the better midfielders in the Championship.

Having said that, his place in the Rams’ starting eleven is not assured as players such as Will Hughes, Jacob Butterfield, Bradley Johnson, George Thorne and Craig Bryson provide heavy competition for places.

Derby seemingly have a surplus of midfielders and in order to strengthen their squad in other areas, boss Nigel Pearson could be willing to allow at least one central player to move on.

The report goes on to say that the Republic of Ireland international has attracted heavy interest from Burnley this summer, although with no deal in sight Hull could emerge as favourites for his signature.
