According to a report in The Sun, Huddersfield Town are potting a January move for Brentford striker Neal Maupay in a deal which could reach more than £10 million.

The report claims Terriers boss David Wagner needs to add more goals to his side, and has identified the former France U21 international as the ideal candidate. The club is said to be willing to offer an eight-figure fee for the Maupay.

Maupay only joined Brentford in the summer of 2017, when the Bees wrapped up a £1.6 million deal (Sky Sports) for the former Nice striker.

In his opening campaign for the club Maupay went on to make 42 Championship appearances, with the majority of those coming off the bench, and fired in an impressive 12 league goals to top the club’s scoring charts.

This season Maupay has taken his game to a whole new level, scoring ten goals in as many league games, with his latest coming against league leaders Leeds United at Elland Road Saturday.

Huddersfield have struggled for goals this season, scoring just four times in eight Premier League outings as the Terriers remain in the bottom three following a win-less start to the campaign.

If the Yorkshire side have any ambitions of retaining their top-flight status, they must add more goals to their side in the January transfer window, and Brentford’s Maupay has the talent to play at a higher level.

The Bees won’t want to lose their star man as they themselves push for a place in the Premier League, but they are known as a club willing to sell their best players if the deal is worth it.
