Fulham have been heavily linked with a move for Southampton’s Matt Targett.

According to a report in the Mirror (live transfer blog, July 18th at 15:38), Fulham have launched a fresh £8 million bid for Southampton’s Matt Targett after missing out on Werder Bremen’s Ludwig Augustinsson.
The Cottagers are in the market for several new players this summer as they relied heavily on the loan system last term as the won promotion to the Premier League via the Championship playoffs.
Slavisa Jokanovic has already lost three of the Fulham starting XI which started the playoff final last May, with Ryan Fredericks joining West Ham United, while Aleksandar Mitrovic and Targett returned to their parent clubs.
It has left Fulham light and in need of several additions ahead of their Premier League campaign, and it seems they are intent on bringing back Targett in a permanent deal.
The 22-year-old struggled to break through at Southampton due to competition for places, with Ryan Bertrand a regular at left-back while Sam McQueen is another highly-rated youngster on the south coast.

Fulham evidently have a decent shot of signing Targett on a permanent deal this summer, though the Saints won’t want to sell him on the cheap having already knocked back a £5 million bid, as told in the report.
Targett made a big impact at Craven Cottage last season, arriving in January and allowing Ryan Sessegnon to move forward into a more attacking position where he scored and assisted with such regularity.
He made 18 championship appearances for the club, including the three playoff games, and he was part of the Fulham side which went an impressive five months undefeated in the league.
