Fulham are reportedly keen to sign Southampton’s Matt Targett on a permanent deal.

According to a report by Sky Sports, Fulham have launched a £10 million bid for Southampton’s left-back Matt Targett.
The 22-year-old spent the past six months on loan at Craven Cottage, playing a key role as the west London club won promotion to the Premier League via the Championship play-offs.
Targett’s inclusion at Fulham was vital in allowing wonder-kid Ryan Sessegnon to push forward into a more attacking role, and it was the 17-year-old who provided the assist in the 1-0 play-off final victory.
Targett came through the youth ranks at Southampton but struggled to break into the first-team, featuring sporadically before his loan move to Fulham as Ryan Bertrand is the club’s number one left-back.

But despite heavy competition for places at St Mary’s Stadium, the report from Sky Sports claims the Saints have no interest in selling the highly-rated youngster as they see him as part of their future plans.
Southampton have a proud history of producing top talent before selling them on, and they may feel Targett has plenty of potential to become a first-team regular in the near future.

Fulham will want to keep the squad that won promotion together in their bid for Premier League survival this coming season, but doing so may be difficult having seen several loan players return to their parent clubs.
Targett was not the only player to have enjoyed a terrific loan spell at Craven Cottage, with Newcastle United’s Aleksandar Mitrovic and Chelsea’s Lucas Piazon also having a big impact at the club.
