Burnley are tracing Nottingham Forest midfielder Henri Lansbury.
According to a report in the Daily Mail, Nottingham Forest have turned down a £3 million bid from Championship rivals Burnley for midfielder Henri Lansbury.
The 24-year-old was one of the bright sparks for Forest in an otherwise forgettable campaign last season, scoring ten goals and providing a further five assists in 36 Championship starts.
His impressive displays have caught the attentions of Burnley boss Sean Dyche, who following Jason Shackell’s switch to Derby County, has cash available to strengthen his side.
As per the latest reports, after seeing an initial bid for Lansbury turned down, the Clarets have seen an improved £3 million offer rejected as the East Midlands outfit bid to keep their core players intact.
Buyout clause confusion:
Burnley’s bid to sign Lansbury has gone on for a lengthy period, and there is no telling how much further the Lancashire side are willing to go considering a slight hitch in the player’s release clause.
Lansbury has a £3 million buyout clause, yet interestingly this only applies to Premier League clubs, a sound strategy by Forest as they bid to prevent losing him to a potential promotion rival.
But should Forest seek a potential sale?
The club’s current transfer embargo places them in a precarious position. With a one in, one out policy allowed, should they sell off key assets for substantial sums and aim for better, cheaper alternatives?
It’s a tough question, with the club paying a heavy price for heavily financing the squad in their bid for promotion, and ultimately coming up short leaving them foul of FFP regulations.
Lansbury, Michail Antonio and Britt Assombalonga are the three standout assets, yet selling them and not replacing them accordingly could ultimately see the club fall further short of their promotion aspirations.
