Everton are said to have joined the race to sign West Ham’s Reece Oxford.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, Everton have joined the likes of Manchester City and Borussia Monchengladbach in the race to sign West Ham United youngster Reece Oxford.

The report claims several clubs have been alerted to the player’s potential availability in January, and that Oxford is looking for a permanent exit after falling out of favour under manager Manuel Pellegrini.

Oxford came up through the ranks at West Ham, and looked set for a sterling career in the top-flight as he made his debut and impressed heavily in an opening day 2-0 win at Arsenal in 2015, aged just 16.

But the 20-year-old’s career has stalled, with Oxford making just 8 Premier League appearances since his debut and struggling to make an impact with loan moves at Reading and Borussia Monchengladbach.

The talented holding midfielder has bags of potential, but needs to start playing regular football and perhaps a fresh start away from West Ham is what is needed.

Everton are at the beginning of a new reign under manager Marco Silva and director of football Marcel Brands, and recruitment seems to have taken a different direction as the club target younger players.

The likes of Richarlison (21), Lucas Digne (25), Bernard (26) and Yerry Mina (24) were signed in the summer, and can expect to feature for many years at Goodison Park, and Oxford would be another signed with the long-term in view.

It’s said in the report that Everton believe he can have a big future in the game despite his lack of first-team action, while his homegrown status adds further value for Premier League suitors.
