Derby County, Aston Villa and Leeds United have been linked with Kidderminster Harriers’ Ed Williams.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, multiple Premier League sides have joined Derby County, Aston Villa and Leeds United in the race to sign Kidderminster Harriers midfielder Ed Williams.

The report claims the Championship trio recently sent scouts to watch the England C squad international, and this past weekend he had top-flight scouts watching him in action against Southport.

Williams has been making a name for himself in the National League North by netting ten goals in 14 games from midfield this season, prompting comparisons to current Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy – who also once featured in Non-League for Fleetwood Town.

A late developer after coming through at Cheltenham Town, Williams could soon find himself playing at a much higher level with the likes of the Rams and Villa keen to spot a potential bargain.

Derby, under the guidance of Frank Lampard, haven’t been shy in dipping into the lower leagues to sign younger players this season – bringing in Duane Holmes and striker Jack Marriott from Peterborough United.

Marriott’s recent success, grabbing four goals in his last five games, shows there is talent out there – he also featured in the conference with Woking before having a spell at Luton Town in League Two.

With Williams seemingly available on the cheap, he could prove to be a worthwhile gamble in the January transfer window for the likes of Derby and Villa, although interest from top tier clubs could now scupper any plans they may have.
